The Admirable American for this week is a Palestinian-American, female, Muslim, advocate for women’s rights. Linda Sarsour started her work in the Arab American Association of New York working for civil rights and against discrimination targeting Muslim Americans. Sarsour gained recognition of Muslim holidays Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Fitr in New York’s public schools. In 2017 and 2019, she co-chaired the Women’s Marches on Washington. She famously argued that women’s rights are human rights, and Time magazine named Sarsour one of the 100 most Influential People of 2017.

Your ACT tip of the week comes from the reading and English sections. Any time you're asked to define a word on the ACT make sure you read a few lines before and after the word to determine its meaning. Oftentimes, the ACT asks about words that are used according to a secondary definition rather than the primary definition we normally use.
Club Announcements:
This month, Cinematics is celebrating the best of the worst. We are watching historically bad movies. Each week, we won't know what we are watching until the meeting when we draw a terrible title from a hat. Come to room 1434 at 3:30 Friday and see what diabolic film is selected. Everyone is welcome. Food and friends will be there.
Model UN will meet after school on February 5 in Room 1209 for an in-house conference. We’ll debate the global implications of Ratatouille and tackle a real-world health issue. All students are welcome—come ready to debate and have fun!
Attention, artists! The Arts for Activism club will have its 5th meeting on Friday, January 30th, from 3:30 - 5:00 in room 2303. We will finish our infographics and start our upcoming project! Snacks will be provided. Email Ms. Bautz with any questions.
