Club Announcements:

The incredibly fun GSA club is a group of students interested in promoting acceptance of the full range of human gender and sexual identities. Literally all students are welcome to have fun with GSA. This includes straight allies and also the L, G, B, T, and Q. The Genders and Sexualities Alliance will meet after school on Thursdays in room #1205. Our first meeting is Thursday August 14th from 3:20 until 4:15. Bring any questions about GSA to Mr. Sabathne in room #1205.

If you're ready to push yourself outside of your comfort zone, then it's time to roll the dice: get involved in Hono Theatre's 2025 fall play, Clue! An informational meeting will be held this Thursday, August 14th @ 3:30 in the choir room. Hono Theatre is looking for talented and driven theatre artists to join the company, including crew for lighting, sound, scenic, props, costumes, run crew, dramaturgy, and much more! Inspired by the Hasbro board game and set against the backdrop of 1950s McCarthyism, this hysterical murder mystery will have you asking "whodunnit" from beginning to end! Contact Mr. Frieden in Room 2403 with any questions.

Come to room 2414 after school on Friday, August 22nd, for a rugby informational meeting if you are interested in joining the team this year. Coach Fleege will be available to answer questions, talk about the sport, and lead you through the paperwork.  Practices start Tuesday August 26th!

Chess Club will meet this Friday (and every Friday) in the library at 8 am for chess games. See you then!

Mr. Dougherty’s Announcements:

Welcome back and Welcome, Class of 2029!!

Thank you to the nearly 100 SOAR Mentors who helped welcome the freshmen last Friday.

Freshmen, the room number on your schedule for lunch is where you will meet with your mentors NEXT Wednesday, August 20th and on assigned Mentor days after that. Every other day including today, you should report to the cafeteria during lunch.

Please ask for help finding classes today. We are all here to help you - including the upperclassmen.

Remember that we are “One HonONEgah” reconnecting today!

Hononegah is where you belong! - The goal is to create and sustain that environment for everyone, and it takes work, so please do your part.

Here’s how you can do that. Take care of yourself. Get enough sleep, drink enough water, and do things you enjoy. Seek help when you need it. Be a good friend and classmate. Do your best to help one another, and if you see something concerning, tell someone. You all make us better by being here, so please come to school every day.

To help us ALL focus on learning, we will continue to place cellphones in caddies every class period, and earbuds will not be allowed during class time. You are free to use them during passing periods and during your lunch. To sustain the high expectations you and this community deserve, this commitment is essential, and we thank you for your cooperation. See the related student handbook language on page 54 of the Student Handbook.

Building Hours: The building will be open for student entry between 7:35-7:55 for first-hour students and 8:20-8:50 for all students. If you ever need help from a teacher, you are welcome to come in during first hour. Please arrange that with your teacher to be sure they don’t have meetings.

Your attendance is critical for your success. We need you here EVERY DAY to be the best school we can be, so please come to school every day. We’re not as good without you!

As we move through this week, please note that the dress code will be more strictly adhered to each day, so please think about that when choosing your outfits so you don’t miss instructional time.

Also, to increase instructional time and limit classroom distractions, we use 5-Star hall passes. It’s pretty simple. Ask your teacher for a pass, and once given permission you will enter your student ID # in the 5 Star Chromebook in the classroom. Then select the pass type - restroom, office, or others from the drop down menu. Restrooms are color-coded this year according to proximity to classrooms. Students must use the restroom nearest their classroom, which will have the same color code as the pass.

We are starting a new chapter in Hononegah’s history today. Let’s enrich the legacy of HONONEGAH this year!

Thank you, and have a great first day!
