Press Release - Hononegah Community High School District #207 Recognizes  Anthony Cassioppi as the IHSA Class 3A 285 Wrestling Champion



Rockton, Ill. (March 21, 2018) –

Congratulations to Anthony Cassioppi on capturing the IHSA 3A 285-pound wrestling championship by pinning all of his opponents in under two minutes at the state final tournament held at the University of Illinois February 15-17th.   This is his second state wrestling championship in a row.   Anthony has not lost a match in the last two years!  This year he had a record of 48-0, won every match by pin fall or technical fall and set the season record for takedowns at 269. 

 

His career accolades at HCHS include:

174 Varsity Wins  (2nd to Rob Fenicle at 184 varsity wins)

2015 USAW Cadet Greco and Freestyle All-American (3rd Place in both Greco and Freestyle)

2016 USAW Junior Greco and Freestyle All-American (3rd place Greco / 2nd place Freestyle)

2017 USAW Junior Folkstyle Nation Champion

2017 Apart of Team USA for the Pan Am games in Lima, Peru à Won both Greco and Freestyle titles

2017 USAW Junior Greco and Freestyle National Champion

2017 USAW Junior Triple Crown Winner (8th ever in US history)

3X Member of Team Illinois for USAW National Duals in Greco / Freestyle

268 Takedowns in a single season in 2017-2018 (Greatest of all time in Hononegah history)
