Hononegah Community High School District #207 Recognizes All State Choir/Jazz Band Musicians

Rockton, Ill. (February 21, 2018) –

Music students from nine districts in the state of Illinois prepare a vocal/instrumental audition. These auditions are extremely competitive and rigorous. They include the playing/singing of scales, exercises, sight reading and tonal skills all while executing a beautiful tone and technique using very difficult music selections.  If selected based on score these students will participate in their district music festivals.

Hononegah had about 60 auditions for the district festival this year and from those auditions 40 students were selected to participate. After attending the state district festivals in November, the juniors and seniors who scored the highest from the nine districts were invited to participate in the all state ILMEA convention in January.

Hononegah had 7 students selected from our district festivals to participate in the All State ILMEA Convention. They are seniors Emily Knodle and Haley Fritts for All State Choir, senior Cross Nelson, sophomores Annika Samuel and Brie Galluzzo for the Honors All State Choir, junior Michael Ahrens in the All State Band and senior Cameron Maupin in the All State Jazz Band.

Being selected in the all state ensembles will not only gain the attention of many colleges that offer scholarship possibilities for these students but also give our students a chance to perform with other outstanding students under the direction of nationally known conductors.

The performance festival in January was held at the same time as the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) conference where music educators from all over the state can meet for workshops, seminars, performances and collaboration with
